Roanoke Public Service Center
Roanoke Public Service Center is the county’s maintenance facility for their official vehicles, ranging from big red fire trucks to the park ranger’s all-terrain four wheeler. They are increasing office space and adding a heavy vehicle welding shop to their current building. The county is also renovating the old ice cream warehouse just next door into an Information Technology (IT) Center. In between the two buildings, now a single property, will be a new wash bay and fuel island.
Southern Air Roanoke helped earn our company the multi-staged project. Our group is responsible for the new HVAC system, plumbing, compressed air and duct work for the new office spaces and IT Center. They have already installed the piping and radiant floor tubing for the new welding bay. We installed more than 8,000 feet of 5/8″ Uponor tubing for radiant in-slab heating. That was just in a single a week!
Setting the air-handling unit involved some tight maneuvering around the structural steel already in place. Our team helped a crane team thread the unit through support beams before settling on a mezzanine 15 feet off the ground. The time the crane arrived on site to the time he was packing up to leave took less an hour. The building’s roof deck was installed a short time after.
Southern Air’s Building Automation Systems department set up the building’s controls. They installed a Trane BAS system providing our customer with easy control over their building. After pulling network cables and wires, they installed custom programmable controllers, which will maximize the building’s efficiency and comfort.
There is just something extra when it comes to pride from projects like this feels. These buildings will allow the hundreds, if not thousands, of public vehicles serving the residents of Roanoke County to get back up and running. Constructing and renovating building systems that will keep ambulances on the road? Southern Air will go after that type of work all day, every day.
It’s important to remember; we’re all connected to tradespeople in some way.
