Wheels of Learning Apprenticeship
The end of spring brings about graduations of all kinds. The Associated Builders and Contractors of Virginia recently graduated 81 trade apprentices ready to build their future. Four of those graduates are budding Southern Air tradespeople ready to grow their careers.
Southern Air celebrated our newly graduated apprentices at the ABC-VA’s fun, family-friendly graduation and casino night. The large crowd roared with applause as each graduate crossed the stage to receive their apprenticeship certificate. The party honored the hard work of each student from 2021 as well as 2020, since COVID-19 canceled all large gatherings last year.
Southern Air’s Wheels of Learning Apprenticeship program was also shut down in response to the pandemic. This unique program, taught by Southern Air alumni, provides new opportunities for employees investing in themselves. Our graduates are eligible for the State of Virginia journeyman card and exempt from the state Journeyman exam! Southern Air not only pays for tuition, books and testing, but also pays students as they attend class.
The four-year Wheels of Learning apprenticeship, accredited by the State of Virginia and U.S. Department of Labor, teaches fundamental theory and instruction. Students attend class twice a week for classroom lessons and on-the-job training to meet the hourly requirements set by the National Center for Construction and Research (NCCER). The curriculum teaches students installation techniques, troubleshooting and repair methods in the HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical and welding trades.
Come fall of 2021, class will be back in session! If you’re interested in beginning a new career in a field bursting with opportunity, an apprenticeship just might be for you. If you have any questions or would like to enroll, please visit our website at www.southern-air.com/apprenticeship-program/
